I don't know if it was random or if it had something to do with this sequence. If you can't do the above, try the following (I saw a guy doing that in a walkthrough): When you pick up the glowing ball, don't drop it rigth away on the rain rocks but instead pass with it through the portal that is nearest to the bridge, which will now hopefully lead to to the portal you want to go! You can then leave the ball on the rain rocks and then go through the same portal again to cross the bridge. Just climb the hill that is near to the bridge and walk/jump on the ridge to reach the portal that you are supposed to come out of. However, you can actually get to the bridge without going through a portal. I tried it just now and run into the same problem (I can't remember if it happened the first time I played it though). Psyonicon: So, you are referring to "Hill's End" level and yes, this is definately a glitch.
